The Present Moment Is a Gift

"The life of faith is lived one day at a time, and has to be lived. Not looking forward to the 'real' life was around the next corner. We are responsible for today and tomorrow God owns." (Elisabeth Elliot)

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."  (Philippians 4.6)

..."See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? " (Mathew 6.28-29)

Gingerbread People

Ingredients:
5 cups of whole wheat pastry flour
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp ground cloves
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp sea salt
1 cup butter
2/3 cup honey
2/3 cup molasses
1 egg

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
In a medium bowl, mix the ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt with the flour. Set aside.  In a large bowl, cream the butter, honey, and molasses together.
Add the egg and mix well.  Add the dry ingredients to the honey molasses mixture in three batches.
Mix well after each addition, stirring until smooth.  Divide the dough in half and chill for 1 hour. Roll out the dough (1/8" to 1/4" thick).  Cut out gingerbread people with floured cookie cutters.
Decorate with raisins and nuts.
Bake for ten minutes or until slightly brown around the edges.
Remove from cookie sheet and cool on wire rack.
These are great plain, but we also like to make a thin icing with confectioner's sugar, vanilla, and water to decorate with (just put the sugar in a bowl and add water until you have the consistency you desire).
Sprinkles and other candies are also fun.
